International Conference on Gender Justice – 2024
Patel Law College, Bengaluru organized an International Conference on “Prospects and Challenges in Enforcing Gender Justice in the Contemporary New World Order: A Multidisciplinary Approach” on 17th March 2024 at the college premises. The event was conducted in a hybrid mode, enabling participation from scholars, academicians, legal practitioners, and students from across India and abroad.
The conference aimed to provide a common platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on gender justice in the context of the changing global socio-political landscape. It sought to promote collaboration among experts from law, sociology, political science, economics, and international relations to discuss challenges, reforms, and emerging trends in achieving gender equality and justice.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by an invocation song by Ms. Vrunda. Smt. Priyadarshini Sanikopp, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Marathahalli Division, Bengaluru, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address on “Combating Crimes Against Women through Police Protection.” She emphasized the need for inclusive and adaptive policies that address gender-based crimes in a rapidly changing world.
Dr. Rangaswamy R., Assistant Professor of Law, Karnataka State Law University, Hubli, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of gender justice in promoting societal harmony and the role of law enforcement and policy mechanisms in ensuring equality.
The inaugural session was presided over by Mr. K. Mayilsamy, Principal, Patel Law College, who welcomed the dignitaries and delegates. Dr. Arpitha Aditya, representing the management of Patel Group of Institutions, and Mr. Sharathchandra Kamath, Campus Dean, delivered their addresses, emphasizing the institution’s continued commitment to gender equity through academic initiatives.
The plenary session witnessed scholarly deliberations by eminent speakers including Ms. Devika Ramachandran (University of Bolton, UAE), Mrs. Marzina Begum (University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh), and Dr. Nana Charles Nguindip (University of Dschang, Cameroon). Their sessions focused on themes such as gender justice and sustainable development, climate change, and the protection of women’s rights within legal frameworks.
The conference featured five tracks of paper presentations conducted in both online and offline modes. Over 65 registrations were received, and 17 offline presentations were conducted under the guidance of eminent chairpersons and co-chairpersons from reputed law universities and institutions across India. Research papers addressed diverse themes including human rights, digital gender justice, environmental law, customary inheritance, and gender equality in religious and legal systems.
The Valedictory Ceremony was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) N. Dasharath, Professor of Law, University Law College, Bangalore University, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. D. Rangaswamy, Assistant Professor of Law, KSLU, Hubli, as the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Jyothi Vishwanath, Associate Professor, University Law College, and Dr. Sharathchandra Kamath, Dean, Patel Group of Institutions, were also present as esteemed guests. The conference concluded with an expression of gratitude to all participants, paper presenters, and the organizing committee for their dedicated efforts in making the event a resounding success.
The International Conference on Gender Justice – 2024 served as a meaningful platform for scholarly interaction and the exchange of ideas on pressing issues concerning gender equality. The event reinforced Patel Law College’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, promoting social justice, and encouraging research that contributes to policy development and societal progress.
